White foods have received bad rap, mainly because they are processed types. Avoiding white processed foods such as white sugar and white flour, may not only improve your midsection, but your health in general. However some white foods are actually good for you.

Here are 10 white foods for a flat belly:

1. Cauliflower

Belonging to the cruciferous family which includes broccoli, kale, and Brussels sprouts, cauliflower is a vegetable that can be eaten cooked or raw. It is high in fiber, which promotes satiety and regularity, both of which may support fat loss. Cauliflower may also promote immune system, and cardiovascular health, among other health benefits.

2. Organic Greek yogurt

Containing more than double the amount of protein in regular yogurt, Greek yogurt is popular with fitness enthusiasts for building lean mass. As you may know, lean mass improves metabolism, which may help reduce belly fat. Real, organic Greek yogurt is also an excellent source of probiotics, calcium, zinc, and vitamins B6 and B12. Pair it up with fresh fruit and you have a healthy, power-packed snack.

3. Cottage cheese

Before there was casein protein supplement, bodybuilders were using cottage cheese to build lean mass and keep fat at bay. Cottage cheese provides casein protein, a slow-digesting protein that helps you feel fuller longer. White meat chicken is a staple in the weight loss, bodybuilding, and fitness circles. This is because it is great for building lean mass, providing high quality protein and very little fat. Chicken is also a good source of various vitamins and minerals. And it tastes great.

6. Turnip

Also known as white turnip, this is turnips belong to the cruciferous vegetables family which includes cauliflower (#1 above). Turnips supply both soluble and insoluble fiber, and are relatively low in carbohydrates. They are also high in vitamin C, which may help boost cardiovascular and eye health, and lower risk of cancer and stroke.

7. Bananas

They have received undeserved bad rap when it comes to fat loss. However, bananas are rich in potassium while also supplying other minerals and vitamins. They also have what is called “resistant starch” which may help increase satiety and fat burning.

8. White fish

While fish is great, many diets out there tend to promote dark, oil rich types such as salmon, mackerel, and herring. However, white fish such as cod, tilapia, and whiting also provide a wide range of health benefits. They are packed with satiating proteins and healthy fats including omega-3 fatty acids.

9. Coconut oil

It has not always been viewed as healthy, because it contains saturated fats. But things do change, and studies now show that saturated fats are actually good for you. Coconut oil, especially the extra-virgin variety, is now gaining recognition as a health powerhouse. Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) which your body uses up quickly as energy. 10. Chia seeds

Considered a super food, the chia seed comes in either white or black color. And it is packed with nutrients including protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals, as well as fiber. The combination may promote satiety and regularity.
