For a number of reasons, you may not be able to access the gym or training equipment. At the time of publishing this post, gyms are closed due to coronavirus, or Covid-19. The good thing is, you still can build your body without equipment. Previously posted a video on arms training. Today’s video shows you how to train shoulders.
Training shoulders can be tricky, as many traditional exercises such as push ups don’t hit this muscle group directly. Even with weights, the shoulder can be challenging to train. This is because, though it’s a small muscle group, it is a rather complex one.
You see, as you may know, you need to hit the shoulder in three ways. In fact, we can say four ways because you also need to train for overall mass. You need an exercise like the overhead press for mass, and then you need to isolate and hit each of the three heads: anterior deltoid, lateral deltoid, and posterior deltoid, collectively known as the deltoids or delts.
The exercises in the following video do a good job of simulating what you would do with weights. The downside with bodyweight exercises is that you can’t really measure the amount of resistance. Increasing resistance also gets challenging as you get stronger. But they are better than not doing anything at all.
I like that the presenter in the video shows you a way to simulate the overhead press without doing handstand pushups which can be both difficult and risky for many people.
Without further ado, here is the video on how to train shoulders without equipment:
