The active ingredient in garcinia cambogia is hydroxycitric acid (HCA). Available studies so far suggest that this works by preventing fat storage and suppressing appetite.

Though studies have been conflicting, there is some evidence that indicates that garcinia cambogia may actually work, although more studies need to be done. The word here is “may”. Studies are few and far between. In one 12-week randomized, placebo-controlled study, it was found that garcinia cambogia may help in prevention and reduction of visceral (abdominal) fat.[4] Visceral fat is linked to cardiovascular health risk.

Will It Work For You?

First, there is no one size fits all when it comes to weight loss supplements. During clinical studies, garcinia cambogia supplements appeared to work for some but not for others. Without trying them yourself, there is really no other way to find out if they will work for you.

Second, quality of the product is important. Many cheap supplements out there that contain but a dash of the active ingredients. You should always insist on quality.
