Like him or not. But there is no denying the power of Dr. Mehmet Oz when it comes to promoting a dietary supplement. Many a supplement has disappeared from the shelves of health food (and other) stores after Dr. Oz has mentioned it on his show. Controversies have at times ensued, but that is another subject.
One of the products that have received the doctor’s mention is garcinia cambogia, a weight loss supplement. After that products containing it flew off the shelves. It remains a hot product today, with various brands selling garcinia cambogia extract or products supposedly containing. This is where the problem occurs.
With so many manufacturers competing for a share of the market, quality can differ significantly. Some may be good and others not so much. Some scam companies may sell products that do not even contain the active ingredients. A recent test on garcinia cambogia showed huge discrepancies between products.
Not only that, a number of products was found not to meet label claims. Label fixing, as it’s known, is a huge problem in the nutritional supplements market. What this means is that that weight loss pill may not be offering the benefits you seek.
In the case of garcinia cambogia, the active ingredient is hydroxycitric acid (HCA). Some supplements tested did not even have this, meaning that they offered zero benefit. These included some top brand names.
