Dietary Supplements Every Man Should Avoid
Dietary supplements can help you attain optimum health and health goals. When used the right way. This means the right supplements for the right reasons, goals, age and even gender. I came across a small list of supplements every man should avoid. Here it is:
FOLIC ACID
It's been lauded for its part in treating depression, but a recent study found that a 1mg daily dose can triple your prostate-cancer risk.
RESVERATROL
This is an ingredient in red wine that increases the lifespan of lab mice, but human research shows it could cause kidney damage.
SELENIUM
Once thought to protect against prostate cancer, selenium was recently linked to an increased risk for the disease.
KAVA
Popular because of its supposed anti-stress properties, this root has been linked to severe liver toxicity.
GINKGO BILOBA
This herb's brain- and memory-boosting claims have been shot down by science, and tests show it's often tainted with lead. See original post at Details website.
Two more supplements men may want to consider avoiding would be:
Soy: Many bodybuilders avoid soy protein as soy is said to increase estrogen production. Some experts refute this but I would rather play it safe: no soy for me.
Iron: generally, men can get adequate amounts of iron from the diet and deficiency is rare. Men should only take iron supplements under direction of a physician as toxic build-up is possible.
