Man Indicted Over Erectile Dysfunction Supplement
I am always very suspicious of certain supplements. I am even more so when they involve "enhancement" of my manhood, not that I need it anyway (wink). A Utah man was recently indicted and is facing federal charges for manufacturing and selling a "100 percent natural" erectile dysfunction supplement.
Kelly Dean Harvey, 48, West Jordan, is charged with importing a raw ingredient from China and selling it through his Murray-based TSN Labs Inc., later called Novacare LLC, as "Stiff Nights," "Size Matters," "Natural Wow" and "OMG."
Harvey's attorney denied the allegations, saying that no one has ever reported health problems.
"Mr. Harvey has cooperated from the beginning with the FDA's investigation despite his belief that it was handled unprofessionally and contrary to the FDA's own investigatory regulations," his attorney, Jamie Zenger, an assistant federal defender, said in an email Tuesday.
The indictment charges that Harvey was paid more than $2 million for erectile dysfunction products from April 2007 to June 2010.
The FDA began warning consumers in 2009 that such products may contain substances that can cause health problems. It specifically warned consumers about "Stiff Nights." Harvey was aware of these alerts but conspired to misbrand the drug to avoid federal regulation, the indictment alleged. See original story
While I cannot say whether the erectile dysfunction supplement in the above story works or not, there has been an influx all manner of male enhancement pills in the market lately. Most of the claims by marketers of these supplements are plain false. So far, the FDA does not regulate nutritional supplements, which is why these "remedies" are sold as supplements. The above "supplement" got in trouble because of having a compound similar to the active ingredient in Viagra. The compound is said to likely cause dangerously low blood pressure when combined with certain prescription drugs.
