Natural Health Helps when Medications Can’t
By Erik M Emerson
Staying well and fighting off illnesses does not have to be expensive. It's likely that you keep plenty of natural health cures in your home already—you just don't know it yet! It's easy to run out to the drug store and grab a few boxes of medication when you feel the sniffles set in because it feels like the drugs are a magical cure. You're better in minutes! When you choose natural remedies you don't have to leave the house, let alone spend a ton of time trying to figure out which drug you need from the pharmacy.
Peppers can help in more ways than one. Bell peppers are filled with vitamin C and if you include some with your meals you can kick start your immune system so that you'll have an easier time staying healthy. Cayenne pepper is another ingredient that is great for colds, flues and your sinuses. Cayenne pepper in tea or in other foods can help you breathe and can cause you to sweat which will help bring down a fever. Cayenne will also help heat your body up so that you can start to sweat out the germs and heal your system. Look for a recipe for salve. Head and chest congestion are no match for a well made and effective salve. Salves are made of herbs and spices that are full of nutrients that you need—salves allow them to be absorbed through the skin which can help you get the nutrition you need even if you have an upset stomach, can be great for your skin and will attach your congestion and boost your immune system. Vaporub, while not strictly a wholly natural product, is a salve that does quite a bit to soothe cold and flu sufferers. You can rub it onto your chest, under your nose and even on the soles of your feet (make sure to cover them in thick socks) to help ease your breathing.
Learn to like steam. Why spend a bunch of money on decongestants when long showers and baths are just as effective? Steam opens up your sinuses and allows you to breathe and clear out buildup. The water's heat will relax your muscles and allow you to rest easier. If you aren't up for taking a full shower or bath, inhale some steam from a pot of steaming water by leaning over the face of the pot and putting a towel over your head. The towel helps contain the steam and move it toward your face as well as helping the water stay warm for longer periods of time. This will help relax your sinuses which will make it easier to clear them out when you blow your nose.
Using natural health to build up your immune system is one of the best ways to prevent illness from taking hold. More importantly, knowing how to correctly treat the symptoms you do have can go a long way to helping you combat illness and to keep yourself from accidentally making yourself sicker. Your body will thank you for using natural methods to treat illness instead of simply throwing chemicals at whatever ailment comes your way.
